Ball Clay Minerals
Name and composition - Also called pipe clay. Composition is similar to that of china clay, hydroxyl aluminum silicate; Al4 (Si4O10)(OH)8.
Physical Properties - Similar to china clay. The name originates from carnival, where the clay was occurring in the form of balls, hence, it is name as ball clay.
Mode of Occurrence - Occurs in the form of bedded and pocket deposit associated with aluminous rocks.
Uses - Its major use (about 97%) is in ceramics and pottery. Other industries where ball clay is used are refractory, pesticide, insulators, insulator sheets, detergent; as filler in paper and textile industries, in paint industries, medicines, clothes etc.
Mineral based Industries – Ceramic industries.
Industrial Prospects – Ceramic industries.
