China Clay Minerals
Name and Composition - White Clay; Hydroxyl aluminium silicate : Al4 (Si4O10) (OH)8.
Physical Properties - It is white, grey and yellowish coloured, fine grained amorphous mineral with dull to earthy luster. It is soft having hardness 2.0 to 2.5; easily crumbles to powder and soils figure, sp.gr. 2.61 to 2.68.
Mode of Occurrence - Generally occurs as bedded and pocket deposit.
Uses - Depending upon plasticity & shrinkage, it is used in different industries. The refined / processed china clay is consumed by ceramic, cosmetic, paint, paper, pesticide, refractory, rubber etc. industries. It is also used in cement, chemicals, glass, textile, abrasives, dry cell (batteries), electrical appliances, electrode etc.
