Sandstone Minerals
Name and Composition - SiO2 with impurities like alumina, CaCO3, Fe2O3 (sand grains cemented by siliceous or ferruginous matter).
Physical Properties - Sandstone is fine to medium grained hard & massive as well as splittable rock having varying colours like light green, brown, dark brown, reddish brown, red, purple etc. It occurs in bedded form.
Mode of Occurrence - Occurs as horizontally disposed sedimentary bedded deposits in vindhyan super group and trans aravalli formations spread over 35000 sq. km. area.
Uses - It is used as decorative/building stone in flooring, roofing, facing, architectural work like carving monuments etc. It is used in acid resistant building and buildings near see shore.
Mineral based Industries – Cutting and polishing industries, artisan work at cottage level.
Industrial Prospects – Cutting and polishing industries, artisan work.
