Serpentinite Stones

Name and composition - It is metamorphosed ultra basic rock serpentinite mainly consists of serpentine 2MgO.2SiO2.2H2O (Hydrous magnesium silicate) which is an altered product of olivine and pyroxene.

Physical Properties - It is a greenish/greenish grey coloured, fine grained, hard massive to fractured ultra basic rock having web like designs of fine calcite, veins/veinlets.

Mode of Occurrence - Occurs along a major faults zone running from south of dungarpur district to Ajmer. The deposit is located in simalwara, dungurpur, kherwara etc.

Uses - Used as dimensional and decorative stone in flooring, wall cladding, pillars, handicrafts, artisan work, monuments, tombs, temples etc.

Mineral based Industries – Diamond gangue saws, cutting and polishing units, handicrafts and artisan units, in carving and sculpturing.

Industrial Prospects –Gangue saw units, cutting & polishing units, carving etc.
