Name and Composition - Aluminium silicate: Al2SiO5.
Physical Properties - Occurs as brown, grey & green shaded, transparent to translucent long, cylindrical crystals having hardness 6.5-7.5 and sp.gr. 3.23-3.27.
Mode of Occurrence - Occurs at the contacts of regionally metamorphosed rocks resulting from thermal metamorphism of pelitic rocks.
Uses - In refractory and ceramic industries.
