Wollastonite Minerals
Name and Composition - Calcium meta silicate : CaSiO3.
Physical Properties - It occurs as white, grey, yellowish brown or brownish red coloured fibrous crystals. Lusture is vitreous, pearly on cleavage planes. Hardness is 4.5 to 5.0 and sp.gr. is 2.87 to 3.09.
Mode of Occurrence - Found in skarn rocks associated with acid intrusive.
Uses - It is used in ceramics, mineral wool, metallurgical fluxes, refractory liners, filler and coating applications, paints, insecticides, insulation blocks & insulators, welding rods. Also as a substitute of crysotile asbestos, asbestos-cement products. Now-a-days the low grade wollastonite is used in tile industries.
Mineral based Industries – Grinding units and ceramic industries, insulation and refractory industries.
Industrial Prospects – Industries like ceramics, tiles, paint, refractory-bricks, insulators etc. can be established in the state.
